You cannot be named Art Studio Happy Cat and not paint cats regularly….
Sometimes you start a painting with a completely serious plan. And then when the basic setup is ready, you change your mind… This is what happened with these two brand new paintings, that you will be able to see and even purchase during the upcoming Elgin County Studio Tour weekend on 27 & 28 September! The countdown for that event has now started… Are you coming? I hope so!
So what about these paintings? well, I was thinking of making one a Siamese cat and the other a Bengal, you know, the one with the leopard spots. But then that started to sound more and more like a boring pair of kittens. What else could I do? And then I saw a beautiful rainbow over St Thomas the other day and the answer came to me. Lets make 2 playful, psychedelic kittens in rainbow colours. To create the illusion of thermal scans, I merged the colours very subtly and before I knew it, the kittens came to life in a whole different way from the original design idea. The butterfly and the dragonfly flew in from my imagination as well “any likeness to a real creature is accidental”, as they put it sometimes. I hope you enjoy them. And I hope you will come out to see this colourful pair during the Studio Tour!

Here is a little video I made at the occasion of the tour…
