Painting Backstories: The leg-selfie

Amidst the many serious works I create, I sometimes need some comic relief. When I got married, one of the favourite things of my outfit were my little ankle boots. I do not often walk in shoes with heels, but these did have some. And I loved them. I still have them and you will find them in the living room! I may one day even paint them, since they are no longer fit comfortable fit. In fact I think I only wore them a couple of times after the big day! The one time I did wear them, my husband and I were in what we thought was going to be a fancy hotel; but it was a big disappointment. It was part of a casino in the Philadelphia area and we really dressed up to go gambling. Only to return to the room pretty quickly and even packing up and returning home without spending the night. I was lying on the hotel bed, bored, sticking my leg in the air, admiring ‘the’ boots, and the pair of tights I was wearing. I figured they were a sight for sore eyes and made a quick phone picture of the ensemble!

So on this one day, many years later, when I felt like a fun painting, my thoughts went to this image. I pulled it up and started painting. It turns out painting a good pair of legs is not that easy! And then decorating them with a painted pair of tights is even harder! After the first version was a complete and utter fail, I had another idea. Why not leave my legs bare and buy a real pair of nice tights to adorn the painting with!? So, I made a second painting. And there you are. That is how this particular painting came to life! If you buy it, not only will you have a pair of me and my beautiful legs in your possession, but you could even remove it from the frame and dress it up in a different pair of tights!! (Which you will of course have to photograph and show me then!).
